Preschool science art fusion in downtown Atlanta

Preschool-aged students had a chance to learn about the microbial world of squash bugs! The students learned what microbes are and that nearly all living things depend on beneficial microbes. The also learned that scientists like myself and others in the lab use fluorescent tagging to view bacteria in the squash bugs' guts. Inspired by images of the fluorescent bug guts, the students painted their own glow in the dark squash bug crypts. We also observed bioluminescent bacteria that were engineered and supplied by my amazing former lab mate, Jason Chen. Thanks, Jason!
